Grill Guards

Grill guards are the barbeque accessory that pretty much comes standard—one-kind-for-all! This makes this particular item easy in terms of purchase, application and use. Yet the grill guard is certainly one of the most important pieces of the grill needed for clean and safe cooking, especially outdoors. As a matter of fact, the grill guard is one of the primary grill implements that ensure healthy eating. The grill guard’s sole purpose is reciprocal in nature: it prevents foreign elements, such as wind, dirt, dust, and other debris, from disrupting the fire and/or contaminating the food; and it likewise prevents sparks from spraying out and causing skin burns, blindness, or fire eruptions on anything flammable that may be situated nearby. These considerations definitely make a big deal when enjoying a barbecue.

For this reason, grill guards are also referred to as splash guards. Barbeque grill guards are special in that they restrict splashing from both sides. Some grill splash guards are even complemented by wide glass bubbles. The latter, however, tend to get smoke-fogged, so they aren’t usually used because grill chefs like the openness associated with free movement. Also, an uncovered grill allows the sizzling barbeque Mesquite or Hickory aroma to linger out and fill the surrounding space, which is the great intoxicating part of the overall barbeque experience. The splash guard, then, in its ingenious simplicity, is designed and intended to restrict the dangerous element of the barbeque while at the same time contributing to the sensual pleasantness to which most people are drawn.

The custom splash guard is that which is made to fit a particular grill, its needs, and its specifications. Although they all look the same, their size and widths vary, as do the material out of which they are constructed. Most splash guards are apparently made out of stainless steel, which is sturdy and durable—especially since the pieces are tightly welded or soldered together—but Antique Bronze is also used. This latter material is firm, but it creates a colorful tinted effect that gives any barbecue grill a sense of character.

Insulation jackets are devised for extra security. This feature, like grill guards, is enclosed on three sides and opened on top and front so the grill, when snuggly fit inside, can breathe without too much constraint. The stainless steel is typically 28” in depth but varies in other considerable dimensions. The insulation contains the heat of the fire within and ensures that no danger breaks loose. This, allied with the overhead exhaust hood, is especially implemented for restaurant grills where addition protective and preventive measures are necessary.

The great thing about the grill guard is its environmental versatility. It is applicable to both indoor and outdoor grill settings, and serves important and distinctive functions relating to each of those settings. Because of this, no grill should be without one.
