Grill Utensils
Grill utensils are the tools of barbecue cooking. These sleek, stainless steel implements come in a variety of styles, but they are always made sturdy and durable for safe and effective use when dealing with food being prepared in hot environments, such as the barbeque grill. Some have convenient hooks for hanging when not in use and for quick retrieval. Their quality is always impeccable, and they are easy to clean.
The grill utensil set typically comes with anywhere from three-to-five pieces, usually including at least a fork, a knife, and a pair of tongs, much like the Hoffritz utensil sets. Hofritz grilling utensils, made by Farberware®, come in platinum and feature adjustable tongs, a meat turner, and a sauce brush for spreading the tangy Mesquite or Hickory flavor around. Some sets, however, offer other useful and most often times necessary utensils for the ultimate grilling experience. The fish turner (designed somewhat differently than the meat turner), the spatula (almost always required), a skewer or spit for rotisserie roasting, cleavers, carving knives, and scrub brushes and scrapers for cleaning the clumps of excess grease from the grates when the cooking is over.
Each set is unique in that of which it is comprised. As a matter of fact, many utensil sets are organized for particular purposes. Examples of this would be the three-knife set for carving, the fork and tongs spatula for spacing and meat inspection (i.e. general cooking, although this would also include a single knife), a brush set for barbecuing, and a scrub brush/scraper set for cleaning. Sometimes all the implements come together, many times they don’t. In the latter case, several sets, such as the grill utensils for camping, will have to be purchased for cooking on an outdoor event.
In addition, many commercial utensil sets come in a Nylon or leather wrap for that professional look. Some wraps might even unfold into an apron, but a few roll up into totes to care over-the-shoulder.
Grilling utensils are not exclusive to only hand-held tools or implements, like stainless steel silverware; cooking containers and small cooking mechanisms are sometimes considered relatives of the utensil clan as well. Weber’s distinct vegetable basket, for instance, and grill pans play a direct role in the way food is cooked on and/or in a barbecue grill. Skillets, fry pans, pots, storage containers (stainless steel, Tupperware) and even griddles are other forms of this. Eating silverware and plates and cups are among yet other examples in the grilling utensil category.
To those who are new top barbequing, please remember that no barbeque can be complete without utensils, except by animals, of course. Be aware that utensils always bring a sense of dignity to every barbeque experience.
